Hello again,
About 3pm this afternoon during a short sharp rainstorm the lights went out at our hotel in the Monkey Forest Road. About half an hour later they came back on. My friend, who has left this evening, continued her packing.
Much later, just before dark, we went out to the M F Road for an early dinner before the transport came to take her to the airport. Everything in darkness. I LOVE this. It takes me back to the 80's. Only problem was, I would have had a torch then.

Luckily the money changer was operating by candle light, but only for small amounts. We walked up to Ibu Rai, wondering if we would get food, and YES. They are amazing! Has Ubud flooded the grid and this happens all the time (again)? They were so organised. Only restriction, no fruit juice.

I had ikan bakar bumbu Bali. Scrumptious. I have to go back and have it again before I go. Luckily the lights came back on before we had to totter down the Monkey Forest Road in the dark. But I was delighted to see that my first-timer friend, after only six days in Ubud, was walking on the road.

Blasted Ubud pavements. I have been sick for a while and they were a lot easier before you had to walk on them. Next trip, I am going to buy complete fluoro yellow suit with flashing lights so I can walk on the road all the time and become a FEATURE of the Monkey Forest Road. Probably early cremation or Kerobokan, I expect.
Wendy
