Just a quick word to let you all know how things have panned out.
Mum and Dads mates had been in the situation before in Bali of having things stolen.
The decision was made not to go to the Police as the cost last time far outweighed the value of the stolen items.
They decided to just deal with the hotel GM.
They went on the day of the theft to move all of their valuables down to a safety deposit box at reception. The staff there told them the boxes were for emergency only :-0
The GM at the Kumala Pantai has continually ducked Mum, Dad and their mates on the theft issue. He just does not wish to speak with them about it.
The guest relations lady merely handed them their room bill at check-out time and stated there was nothing they could do for them.
They moved to the Bali Rani on Wednesday as part of their original plan.
On check-in they relayed the drama to the staff at the Bali Rani who promptly called their manager.
He then called in his head of security and escorted them to the Police Station to file a complaint. Once the complaint was filed and handed back to them the Police asked for their ‘Fee'.
They were given a firm but polite no.
The insurance company will be next.
As for speculating on who took the money...it would be purely that...speculation.
Whilst the hotel management has acted in a very unprofessional manner this does not mean that a member of staff has taken the money.
The rooms in question had been refurbished in the weeks prior and many people would have access to keys and the rooms in general.
Getting keys copied would be simple.
Learning to open one of these safes is apparently not so hard and I'm sure that getting on to a work gang would be simple enough also.
There is also the possibility of a random walk-in thief.
So there it is. That's all I can tell you.
You have the information and can decide for yourself about the hotel and the way this episode was handled.
Personally, if I was booked in there, I would continue with my plans and let the staff know that you have heard about the theft that occurred.
I think I'd also be using the ‘Emergency Only' safety deposit box.
