I think there is no cause for panic. I also think from what you have written that it is an ATM fault, not a scam or skimming device. The machine has failed to dispense cash and the audit will show it as having a surplus.

Your bank will organise reimbursement. It may be that the cash cannister was empty (although that normally results in auto shut down, or the cash dispenser slot was blocked in some way, such as a creased or folded bank note.

What happens now is your bank files a claim with the operator of the ATM and either receives a fault report and money reimbursed or a claim denied as cash in the ATM balanced with withdrawals.

This type of mechanical error happens quite frequently all around the world.

What sh0uld have happened is the ATM should have been shut down when the first claim was made, but this may take a little time.
