But it's not just about Bali.
It's about travel in general.
People who have travelled a lot elsewhere, but first time in Bali are less likely to be in awe of the "differences" that they see around them.
To many of these people it's just "same old but different place".
The true Bali (and general travel) virgins stand out in varying degrees at airports, on the plane, at Immigration/Customs, and then onto the streets.
It's body language, general demeanour, confusion with money and the whole package that give it away to everyone including other travellers.
Stallholders also have a list of questions designed to determine a persons experience and also to a degree budget.
It seems like idle chat, but it has a purpose.
Once upon a time we were all a bit like todays newbies.
The early days experiences create the memories and passion that keep most people returning again and again.
