I dont think anyone is suggesting that you dont give a tip,I am certainly not saying that.
What i am saying is that yes there are certainly a lot of drivers out there, mainly from other companies other than bluebird who will try it on with this excuse of no change to "extort" more money from the unsuspecting tourist and this is often on top of the meter reading being "fixed" to show a higher price, or the driver taking you on a longer way round to your destination to increase the fare, this is the main reason i use bluebird taxis 99.75% of the times i actually use a taxi, so if or when this happens to me (once only ) my response is as already posted I.E. it is your responsibilty to have change for your customers and therefore go get some if you want to paid whatever price you are trying to get from me,and if you are trying to take advantage well you have just kissed goodbye to ANY tip you would have been given.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with giving them an extra 50 cents, but in your example doing so it is a 33% tip,if at home took a $30 taxi ride would you round up the fare to $40? and if you say yes well more fool you.
