Hello all!
Firstly... apologies for yet another money question!!!
I am traveling to Bali with my family in April/May for 2 weeks this year. There are 7 of us (2 adults and 5 children). I know most of you recommend taking cash only. As you can imagine we will be taking a fair amount of money with us to cover accommodation, food, shopping, transport and activities (Bali Safari Park, Treetops Adventure Park, WWR, cycling and buggying).
I am very reluctant to take so much money in cash and leave it in a hotel safe. I also do not wish to carry this sort of cash around with us constantly.
I have been investigating options...
Travelex Cash Passport- has no electronic transaction fees (eg. eftpos purchases), although as it is seen as a credit purchase it will often attract a 3% fee from retailers/hotels etc. US$2.25 ATM fee. Plus approx. A$4 Foreign Exchange Margin.
ANZ Travel Card- has no electronic transaction fees (eg. eftpos purchases), although as it is seen as a credit purchase it will often attract a 3% fee from retailers/hotels etc. US$2.20 ATM fee. Don't think it attracts a Foreign Exchange Margin fee (can't find mention of it in the PDS).
Bankwest Debit Visa Card (we already have one of these for everyday use in Australia)- 2.5% electronic transaction fees (eg. eftpos purchases, plus possibly it will also attract a 3% fee from retailers/hotels etc. $5 ATM fee. Don't think it attracts a Foreign Exchange Margin fee (can't find mention of it in the PDS).
Anybody used any of these options and would like to comment on how easy they were to use, fees etc.
I could also take travelers cheques but don't really want to carry my passport around with me.
I would love to hear from anyone who has needed to take large amounts of cash with them and in what format they did that, how secure was your chosen format and also ease of use.
Thank you in advance.
