We take cash and use the envelope system as well, but we put everything in the envelopes once we arrive at hotel and place in room safe or hotel safe. While traveling we split the money up between us and we both carry it in our wallets never ever put your cash in your suitcases. Probably commen sense but thought I would say.
We have never had a problem!
