One of the things I have found has been much better value in Bali is the hotels! We've stayed at a variety of hotels in Bangkok in particular and have either paid a lot (compared to Bali) for a pretty ordinary hotel or even more for a very nice one. Perhaps Bangkok is much pricier than lesewhere in Thailand, or maybe we have been unlucky (we haven't been to BKK for 6 years now, but have been there 5 times in the years leading up to that).
