I think the "smiles" are fake. For the most part. I have observed closely and the "smile" just fades away when they think you are not observing.

I also believe Thailand is much better value for money. Hotels are far better for the same or lower prices. Food is better (but, that's an individual choice). Shopping for all wallets.

However, Balinese architecture is really unique and I love it. The scenery in parts is also great ie the lush paddy fields.

You have your point of view. I have mine. We can agree to disagree.
