Booking flights & hotels online

Hi Everyone,

Has anyone tried booking flights online with the airlines & booking hotels online through a service like DirectRooms ? Has it been a success or a disaster ?

All the travel agents I have spoke to are quoting package prices quite a bit higher than the total of the individual online prices for the same flights & hotels. They are also saying some flights are fully booked whereas the airline websites say there's seats available.

If you have not experienced any problems doing it this way would you please let me know who you used ?
