Walk past a warung or food cart & if there are Balinese eating there, it's probably good.

Last trip in September we ate at least once a day (usually lunch) from such warungs & rarely saw another tourist there. The food was great - most we ever paid was Rp10K each (mostly less) for rice & a variety of side dishes we chose ourselves - enak sekali every time & always more than we could eat. We usually had it made up for take away (bunkus) & ate it in our aircon room with some kecap manis & Lampung chilli sauce we'd bought & icy cold beer from our fridge, watching a dvd & chilling from the heat of the afternoon. Sooo pleasant. Need a fork & spoon, of course - never travel without them:)
