any thoughts on a northern trip.

Hi travelling in December with hubby, me, sons 17, 8 and 5.
On this trip I would like to get them out of tourist areas.
I would like them to see Lovina, hot springs, git git waterfall, abud monkey forest....Any thoughts whether to do in a day trip up, overnight and back, or 2 separate trips with no stay....HELP !!!!!
