I agree with the other posters that overnight would be better. One visit we hired a car for the day and drove up to Kitamani and then up to Singaraja, then we came back down through lake ?Bratan and then on to Tanah Lot and made it for sunset. Lovina is fairly close to Singaraja.
Another idea could be a round Bali trip. Hire yourselves a car and do something like we did, first went to Baliaan or Medowi for a night, then onto Lovina for a night, round to Amed and then we came back and went to Ubud but you could keep going along the coast to Candi dasa and then back to Kuta/Legian. The kids loved the car trip, great experience.
