Hey Guys, Back in March of this year i had the same discussion with other formites, one in paricular was so rude to me, stating that i was scaring people by asking if the bird Flu was in Indonesia yet again, as we had been the year of 2004 and our hotel was importing all chicken and egg products for the saftey reasons. I need to mention that it is an incorrect fact that you can only get the Flu from the poo or saliva. When iam in doubt about these things, i now log on to the World Health Org and read what the experts say. I have copied a bit from the site from back in March.
Indonesia (2 February 2004 - first outbreak of this disease ever reported) AI viruses can contaminate eggs and poultry meat. Even dressed (frozen and/or commercially packaged) poultry can present a risk for infection to humans because HPAI viruses can survive in frozen carcasses and blood for as long as 3 weeks.
As you can see, it does indeed contaminate the poultry.
However from MY understanding, Bali is in the clear at the moment.
Cheers.
