I had this happen to me last year, but I never went with the girl in this case.
She said she was from Malaysia (KL to be exact) and was very nice. I didn't go as my wife was a little ill and I didn't want to go away. I told her and her sister to meet us for dinner but they didn't show up of course.
I had no idea it was a scam until I got back and read some posts.
I felt sick. I really don't know why people go to Bali. I am going in three days and wish I wasn't. I have travelled extensively in Asia and have never come across a place such as Bali where everyone is trying to rip you off. We even got introduced to a life long friend of a friend last year and he ripeed us off. Took us on a "tour", took us to all the usual commission paying places, made us feel like crap when we didn't want to go to them and hapily took a heap of our money for the pleasure. If a friend can rip you off like this, imagine what the rest are doing.
I really don't like Bali and feel stupid that I am going back. I really wish I could cancel my ticket and go somewhere like Vietnam. Sure, there are scams there too, but I have never been totally ripped off by all comers as I have in Bali. Once this is over, I'll never go back.
This is not a troll exercise, but an honest opinion of a place which could be so beautiful, but which, due to the people, is so horrible.
