The day dawns clear, not a cloud in the sky and mountains and the southern part of Java are picked out in pinky blue as the sun rises.
Already local boats are scooting across the water going about their business on another brilliant Kuta day.
Even the beach dogs seem taken by the tranquil vista and tail wagging and bum sniffing takes the place of incessant sparring.
Yesterdays trip with a local couple to the Bukit was an eye opener.
Many people will be aware of the huge statue development that has existed at GWK for a number of years.
The project is hugely ambitious and has seemed to be in limbo for quite a while.
The local couple that I accompanied have embarked on a 5 are building project that is actually inside the KWK development.
In the past when visiting GWK I always went through a pay area into where the restaurants and information on the project are.
However, this time we went another way that got us into the back of this area, and where the Tata Indonesian development company are building the huge lower part to what will eventually support the giant Garuda Wisnu statue.
The site was busy and pouring concrete continually using westernised cranes and trucks etc....the project is really kicking on.
This huge monument will eventually be one of the, and if not actually the highest statue in the world (from the ground).
The views will be fantastic, and the statue visible from many parts of southern Bali.
Statue parts in a bronze/copper material are spread around the site at the moment, and just standing by one of the huge hands and forearms gives some idea of the scale (a fingernail is the size of a beachball!!)
Completion is projected to 5 years and will certainly be a focus place for visits from many domestic and international tourists.
Our friends development is also ambitious, but in a very different way.
I spent a respectful amount of time there and then stopped off at a local chicken "farm" nearby, owned by one of the family.
This short Bukit trip brought the Kms on the newish Yahama I have to 4,000km.
Kms mostly done around Kuta/Legian etc with the odd trip to Denpasar and the Bukit.
Quite a lot of travelling when one is on training wheels.
