why some people might be disappointed, it is fairly basic. A pretty accurate description is 5 star location, 3 star accomodation, just depends on what is more important to you. Although the newer units they've built in the past few years are pretty nice(Jati is the best but probably booked out). Still not a place for princesses tho as you are basically in a jungle setting. I've had big goannas bouncing around in my roof and the monkeys wake me up partying on my balcony in the morning.
Also, the generator usually switches off around 11 and doesn't come back on until 7ish. But I love escaping the modcons, so for me its a great place to get away from it all, no aircon but they do have rechargeable fans.
Re waves, yeah the right at insides is great on the low tide, the left at high tide but is more of a workable beginners wave(both need a solidish swell to work). Outsides is a bit shifty but still good if you get the squareish ones across the reef, gets quite heavy when big. The wet season right($15 per day to go out there which does add up) is on par with the insides right, maybe a bit quicker but probably not ideal for total beginners as it gets quite shallow on the inside, but even if not a great surfer you can sit wider and still get waves.
Yeah, the steps are a fair workout, so if you do go there, make sure you get acommodation up the top and not down the bottom. Once or twice a day up the stairs is ok, but for every meal you might get sick of it.
The good thing about staying there is that the boats with the kuta crew go home about 4 and then you get the breaks to yourself, plus I don't think they go out to the wet season waves which is what you'll probably be surfing this time of year......Good luck
