duty free ?

Have been told by an australian custom officer if you purchase alchol from australia at your local bottleshop , it is not classified as *duty free* , when taking it into Bali. This alchol already has had duty tax applied to it.Therefore you can take alchol in your checked in luggage and not declare.Does anyone else agree with this, it does seem logical.Interested to read your replies.
