Yes they told us if you enter on Indonesian and leave on Indonesian you have to have a visa - to live in Australia. Obviously she was born here and had Aussie passport which I showed them and they said that she could not do it that way that she had to enter on Aussie and leave on Aussie, as there was no visa in Indonesian passport to live in Aust. We didnt pay any VOA etc as she has dual citizenship - when your child gets this they are given their citizenship certificate and then a little white card as well - I was told by Immigration at the airport that suffices in her Aust passport and there are no VOA charges etc. So maybe we were just unlucky cause I was thinking the same as you.
