As a solo traveller, the only time I felt a little ‘odd', was whilst dining alone. This resulted in mostly attending ‘tried & true' restaurants that I was well familiar with instead of trying others that are on my ‘Want to Try List' or that are further a field from my accommodation.
FOOD
ZANZIBAR
Blue Ocean, Beachfront, Legian.
A ‘tried & true' restaurant that I attended on two occasions, for ease of attendance & comfort in the fact that I trusted the meal would be good.
Ocean views, comfortable, busy.
SEASIDE
Blue Ocean, Beachfront, Legian. (LHS as you exit Kumula Pantai Hotel on beach).
Another trusted restaurant. Fab ocean views, relaxed setting. Met friends for dinner here plus enjoyed lunch on another occasion.
DAYU 1 Restaurant
Jalan Singosari - Kuta
A peaceful, trusted oasis in the heart of Kuta. We have been patronising this restaurant for over 20 years. Food is so inexpensive but truly appetizing. The owners happily welcomed me & were surprised I was without the family on this occasion.
JAPANESE RESTAURANT (name unknown)
Kuta Mall Galleria - LHS of mall as you enter , heading toward Ace Hardware.
A quick ‘eat & run' meal of chicken & rice was had at this clean, well-serviced eatery prior to a full evening of shopping.
TOMMY'S CAFÉ
Having had a satisfactory lunch experience on a prior trip, I expected a better dining experience than I received. On entering & taking a seat, no one approached offering a menu or cold towel, as is the norm. A cluster of retired looking folk at several tables at the back of the café were busy interacting, as was an older Caucasian lady who looked like she had something to do with the cafe. After being ignored for long enough, I approached the rear counter asking for a menu, the Caucasian lady exclaimed she thought I had already been attended to. Anyway, I was finally served & then had to ask for my bill since I was left waiting endlessly, yet again. What a contrast of service in comparison to most other places in Bali! Tommy's Café is not somewhere I would bother returning in a hurry.
DELICIOUS ONION
Cnr Jl Dyanapura & Jl Drupadi, Seminyak
Understated, intimate little ‘chillout' restaurant at the beginning of Jl Drupadi & next to the Harmony Hotel. Trully tasty, delectable food. Well priced, clean, attentive service. Whilst Seminyak shopping, I enjoyed tapas for lunch here.
MOZZARELLA BAR & RESTAURANT
Jl Padma 9, Legian.
I was prompted to try this restaurant after noting it was listed as No 1 on Tripadvisor - which of course arguably could mean very little, other than the fact that it is ‘popular'. I attended this restaurant on two separate occasions, but at both times ended up leaving before ordering, as I was not able to tolerate the overwhelming cigarette smoke from fellow patrons.
YUTZ
Jl Werkedura, Legian
A small, popular, well patronised restaurant that I had passed on many occasions, but never used until this trip. A complimentary margarita & garlic bread given on arrival. Surprisingly good, fresh food with truly outstanding, attentive service. A pleasant revelation.
