suicides in Bali due to debt has been happening as the economy has been affected by changes in toursim patterns etc. so many balinese are up to their ears in debt to keep up appearances and have given up title to family land etc as collateral on their loans- I hope that your friend is not in this position?
If it is a legit loan- unlikley if it is for gambling debts and gambling is illegal- she may be able to offer to make whatever payments she can as she can- she may be forced to sell of any assets she has though.
if it is a non-legit loan- more likley- she is at the mercy of the lender and there is very little that can be done as generally the police will do little as they are getting a pay off. the lender will keep on and on at her.
