Just got back early yesterday morning and spent the last couple of weeks at Kumala Hotel in Legian. I continue to be so impressed with Ibu Sri at Jadi Cafe. She is a brilliant cook and we ate there a lot. There is a big variety of Indonesian food (Kalimantan influence) and I keep finding a new favourite every time I try something new. As I have said before, if you want quick service this is not the place for you because she cooks everything from scratch and puts her heart (not literally!) and soul into each dish so either have a couple of her cold beers or take a bottle of wine and relax and wait to be impressed.
The last few days that we were in Bali Brian was sick with what turned out to be Dengue fever. (there is a lot of this about so take care since the Dengue mozzie bites in daytime especially dawn and dusk). I would order and then Sri, Tess and myself would form a procession accross the road to our room with dishes of healthy nourishing stuff like fish soup and ginger honey and lemon drink for all the world like we were off to a ceremony.
Eventually with a lot of what I must admit was nagging (you blokes really need it now and again you know, on health matters) we went to SOS clinic where unsurprisingly they confirmed it looked like dengue and did blood tests. The results were back in two hours and the Doctor phoned me to say that whilst one test showed he definitely had it the other showed his thingywhatsits that cause your blood to clot were ok so it was not the nasty internal bleeding variety and he was Ok to fly home. He's still not too good but starting to improve.
Now this is addressed to the male forumites really but any women who like to stick their head in the sand are welcome to read too. If you suddenly feel very hot, then cold, you have a headache and your joints and back are very sore and a red rash appears (in some not all). This does not mean A. The bed has suddenly got hard. B. The air con is alternately not working at all and too damn cold. C. Although you are already brown you got sunburn in 10 minutes in the ocean. IT MEANS YOU MAY HAVE DENGUE FEVER. Go directly to the Doctor, do not pass go, do not wait 3 days because if you are unlucky enough to get the hemorrhagic variety you may be in very bad shape indeed, or you may not "be" at all and although I understand a cheap cremation is possible in Bali it still may be just a tad upsetting to all your near and dear ones and not all that good from your point of view either.
Hm this started our as a post about Jadi Cafe and ended up a rant. I'd better amend the heading I think. If any of you think that whilst I was fetching fish soup I was getting just a little cranky at the delay. YOU'RE SO RIGHT.
