Was your connecting domestic flight on the same PNR/ticket or did you have a separate booking number for the domestic leg?
I thought that if on the one ticket you would be 'looked after'. If not, even if the connecting flight is with Jetstar/Qantas you are on your own as the ticket is sold as point to point only with no guarantee for connections. This is where your travel insurance would kick in.
I am sure your suitcase would be having a good time wherever it is. Probably spinning around and around getting dizzy on a baggage carousel somewhere.
