If you are feeling unwell once you have arrived in Bali, think very carefully about what you are going to do.
My husband was very unwell to the point that he was unable to breathe. He was struggling to maintain breath while walking up or down two or three steps. WE attended BIMC on Wednesday 15 July.
He was attended by a doctor almost immediately on arrival. He was given oxygen to assist his breathing. Bloods were taken and he was awaiting the results. 20 -25 mins later the doctor announced that he had a low white blood cell count. When we asked what this meant she said it was possible that it could be an indication of Swine Flu. We were then informed that according to new government procedures we would have to go to a Government Hospital for further treatment. We requested a chest xray as we thought he may have pneumonia. The xray showed that his chest was very cloudy especially on the lower left hand side. The doctor said she thought yes it could be pneumonia; however she was still obliged to inform us that we would have to go to the government hospital in Denpassar - Sanglah Hospital.
Being left with no choice as he required medical attention we were advised that an ambulance was on its way to take us to Sanglah Hospital.
On arrival at Sanglah Hospital we were greeted by a media frenzy. While the ambulance was being washed prior to entering the hospital receiving area the media was taking photos through the front windscreen and back doors of the ambulance. When the doors were open and my husband was climbing out the camera man was filming away. They followed us into the open doors of the hospital.
This was a very disturbing experience, as I was only concerned that my husband get the medical assistance that he required.
