Aussie notes $50 - $100 are the best way to go.... Now for the pitfalls...
- Make sure that the exchanger (tukang uang) has 'no commission' displayed, or you will be in for a rude shock on receiving your rupiah.
- Travellers cheques will be cashed at a lower rate.
- Count your money there and then, and use a calculator if you are not sure. Preferably not the money changers, I've seen some dodgy ones used.
- cash only what you need for the day unless it's an incredibly higher rate than the day before.
- All those zeros get confusing. Often people will squable over what amounts to 20c.
Kodak/photo shops will usually have the best rate and are not commissioned.... They're everywhere.
- Hotel exchange rates suck, as does the airport.
