i'm doing a year or two myself, leaving soon! so you have an idea this is my plan:
i'm renting and in my opinion renting is very affordable. look at baliadvertiser.biz they have real estate rental listings. i'm paying 200AU/month for my one bedroom unit, with western toilet and shower and kitchen in seminyak. you spend much less for a kos (indonesian boarding house style) or thousands on a villa. visa wise I have a sosial budaya visa, a friend of mine in bali is sponsoring me, will be able to extend my visa for up to 6months after that i have booked a ticket on air asia to malaysia where i will start the visa process again. when i'm in bali i will use an agent to do the extensions for me, will find one when in bali- there seems to be so many. budget wise i am planning on about 6,000,000/month. i'm pretty content living off food from kaki limas, warungs and ojek. i'm not working at all. i have friends who are currently doing the same as me, they were my inspiration! you just need to know that living in bali isnt like a holiday (daily massages, eating out at restaurants, cocktails etc completely blows out the budget) treat bali just like home, everything in moderation!
enjoy and good luck with your journey.
