When you get married in Australia you don't have to register a change of name, your marriage cert. and other ID is usually enough to change your bank accounts etc.

However, when you marry overseas, the overseas marriage certificate is often not enough for banks to change your bank account, so you have to register a change of name. Check out Births, Deaths, & Marriages for what you need to do that in your State.

You cannot register an overseas marriage in Australia. That doesn't mean it is not recognised. You should get a translation of your marriage certificate done at the consulate in Bali (or where-ever you are).
