The probable outbreak of rabies in the Uluwata area has now led to people there being vaccinated against the disease, while still waiting for definitive results of brain tissue testing of dogs in the area.
Visitors concerned should see their doctor to discuss possible preventive vaccination and learn what should be done if bitten. First action is immediate copious washing with iodine and then starting the course of treatment injections. If an infection establishes then it is fatal.
