You will have a great time - we returned in 2005 after 20 years abscence and Bali is just like a totally different place on the surface but underneath, it is exactly the same. The people, smells the heat will always be there, with god's help.
We too are going in August (10th) for two weeks with our 8 & 10 (turning 9 & 11 whilst there) and this will be there first trip on a plane and we are looking forward to seeing Bali through their eyes. We are staying at the Bali Garden in Tuban.
.
As far as restaurants, last time we found most restaurants had large amounts of western food eg, hamburgers, fries, spaghetti, pasta, pizza, nuggets, etc so I am sure if the kids aren't willing to try indonesian or asian food they will always find something to eat. Our 10 year old daughter too is a fussy eater, so we are positive she will not starve!!
Kuta beach markets are still there. If you do a search on this forum you will find places like, Debbies, Ketuts who are fixed price and have lots of roxy, billabong clothes as well (believe me, I have researched long and hard as we are planning on buy heaps for the kids). Once you get there, you will be amazed. There is also department stores. In Tuban there is Discovery centre which has lots of little shops with a big department store like Myers covering 3 levels(I think), (you won't be able to miss it) and in Kuta Square there is also Matahari.
I hope this helps you.
Cheers Bratz
