Indonesian ? I have been trying to teach my kids a little of the local language before we go to Bali, I have a poster up on the wall with about 20 or so words/phrases and the kids have blown me away at how quickly they have picked it up. Now my husband and I get in trouble if we use English for a word we know the Bali equivalent to, I love it!
Every morning I wake to "selamat pagi Ibu," the other day my little girl came in crying "Ibu I hurt my finger".I would love to know a term of endearment to call my children any ideas? In English I would say "it's OK honey".
I found, daughter girl is, <Anak perempuan> that's a mouth full! could I just say "Anak, come here !"
What about< beautiful girl> "Cantik" is that appropriate for a mother to call a daughter? if so how is pronounced - chahn teek ?
The other word I'm finding hard to define is, <please>, I have found 3 different ways of saying it, so if the children ask for, say an ice cream, would they say "can I have that one, silakan"? or there is also "minta" and "tolong", which "please" is it I'm after? (remembering we only have time to learn key words ).
Another word I found is "Tanah - means soil, dirt" my daughters name is "Tannalee" or "Tanna" for short (pronounced the same), we told her they might think she gets dirty a lot, she is not to impressed!!
Thanks for any help and any ideas, to make our trip more fun.
Deb.
