While the seats are wider for sure, Jetstar should NOT call this
Starclass "Business" .... in fact I would call it false advertising.
BA has a class called "Economy Plus", which is what I would more
term this Starclass with Jetstar.
I have flown economy to Bali, as well as "Business Class" with Garuda
and Dec 06 / Jan 07 with Jetstar "Starclass". I have flown to other
parts to the world in Business, and I can assure you that Starclass
is NOT and should not be called Business Class.
So - as for Jetstars "Starclass" - yes it is better than economy.
As above the seats are wider, yet the leg room is not the same
as true business class with other airlines. When the person in front
of you put their seat back, you feel a bit locked in - there is
not a lot of room left for you when this happens. The portable TV's
they give you (free with Starclass) I find a bit awkward sitting on
the fold out table - especially when you are eating.
For those that have been lucky enough to fly true business class,
and have also tried Starclass will know what I mean. True biz class
seats are similar in width (maybe even a bit wider again), yet have
a lot more leg room. The seats in true business class also have much
better control and ajustments (all electric). The other thing is the
food level is mich higher in true biz class than Starclass.
As for your comfort and that of your child, if you can afford the
extra cost, then even Starclass is better than economy. A 3yo will
really not know the diff, so don't just do it for them - but do it
for yourself. If you are more comfortable, more relaxed, then this
should help flow onto your 3yo (sounds like a good theory anyway).
Oh the other thing is time in the air - from Melbourne it is 5.5hrs
to Bali and 5 coming back - so it is really not a LONG time, yet it
can end up being long if you have a cranky kid to look after.
Another thing is the extra weight - with economy it is just 20kg.
With business (including Starclass), you get 30kg - which can be
helpful if you have lots of extra stuff to bring home.
Bottom line -
* Jetstar should NOT call Starclass business class
* If you can afford the extra cost - do it.
