Back in the 90's Atlantis Marine Park in Perth closed down.
For about 3 years beforehand, an expert on releasing animals back into the wild worked on strategies for doing this with the dolphins at Atlantis (teaching them to fish, letting them out for a few hours at a time etc.. When the dolphins were released into the wild, some of them died, some were attacked by wild dolphins, so the remainder had to be captured and are now at Underwater World in Hillaries.
I dont think it is that easy to rehabilitate back into the wild as people think. It may be kinder to make sure they are looked after well in captivity in some cases. I dont know these dolphins myself, having never seen them, so cant comment on this particular case.
