because no driver is an employee all their own bosses butif somebody does the wrong thing and don't get me wrong, I know some do, all tend to get a bad name. I mean the guy that let you down put you off taxis for life!! If it's any comfort after your complaint he would have been pulled up before a tribunal and fined and after 3 offences he would need to go and work for somebody else.
I always gave the best service I could, carried many bags of shopping up flights of stairs for those that couldn't. I remember trying to get a drunk into a lift in his block of flats once but everytime I got the doors open and got him nearly in, he'd press the button and shut them again!!
I honestly think most drivers try to do the right thing but usually we only hear about the bad ones. I've taken young girls the worse for ware home at 4.00am for free because I didn't want them left on the street in that vulnerable state and I know other drivers do these things every day too. Some passengers, especially on Friday and Saturday treat the drivers very badly too. My night driver was bashed not so long ago when he pulled up at a teen party and wouldn't take more passengers than he is licenced (and insured) to carry). It isn't always the easiest job in the whole world.
