In 2000 I was diagnosed with heart problems and was accompanied back to NZ, business class, by an Aussie doctor based in Jakarta.

Don't know how much that cost, but the bypass I had a few days later
was NZD 29,000, all paid for by Southern Cross Medical.

After five years of having no cover for heart-related problems, this year they reinstated me to full cover.

I always have my insurance card in my wallet, so if I'm scraped off the road unconscious, they will know that any treatment given will be paid for.

Totally agree that if you can't afford the insurance you cant afford to travel.
