now, my advice is to get an Expat cover with the same company.
This will normally mean that you have the automatic right to transfer back to your domestic cover at a later date, no matter what your current state of health.
The reason this is important is that travel insurance is, essentially, there to help you while overseas and get you back home, if necessary.
Once back in your home country the cover is limited.
In my case I was covered by Southern Cross expat insurance which patched me up and got me home - I guess $15,000 - $20,000.
Once I was back in Kiwi the cover was limited to $5000.
Prior to going in for tests they advised me to transfer back to my domestic policy just in case I needed a number of stents or worse.
As it was I arrived for my exploritary armed with a letter from Southern Cross advising they would pay up to $40,0000 if required.
So, with the combination of expat and domestic the total payout was around $50,000 all for a $1,000 annual premium.
Small price.
Happy to answer any further questions as this is such an important subject.
