G'Day lyn there are a few budget airlines you can fly on to go Java not sure if they go direct to Yogyakarta eg Adam Air, Lion Air, citilink garuda (the new budget part of garuda,merpati,I think air asia only fly to Jakarta. Most of these airlines have websites.
Are you leaving from Denpasar?
We have just come back from a 2 month holiday and flew from Surabuya to Bali for 292000 Rups (roughly about $40 australian)its very cheap.
In Yogyakarta we stayed in this little hotel called Tulips on Jl tirtodipuran Lovely rooms i think there were on 42 all positioned around the swimming pool its owned by a lovely dutch guy.
