I've been going to Bali for over 20 years (29 times) and yes one can (and I do) spend a lot more (inflation, x-rates etc adjsuted for) than I used to many/most days. However that is because Bali now has a lot of international level accomodation (incl. hotels and villas), restaurants and designer items etc - which I really enjoy. That said these are still a lot more affordable (anf closer) than nearly all other international destinations and...
... I also still enjoy some of the 'relatively' cheap(er) but still very very enjoyable aspects of Bali at local warungs, losmen etc. And not just in Sideman - in Seminyak some days I'll pay $50 for lunch and other days $3 because that's what's available and I enjoy it all. I don't feel ripped off at the more expensive places and don't feel like i am ripping anyone off at the less expensive places and it's all fab. The mix of what's on offer and able to be enjoyed is part of what makes Bali terrific - as well as the people.
