Of course you knew the stick you would come in for. :)

I know of six brand new rooms with hot shower,a/c, wifi, cable tv, dvd player and free movies to choose from only 20 metres off Tamblingan Sanur right next to the night market with a three minute walk to the beach for 250 000 rupiah a night including a great breakfast, or 3.5 million a month. This is not a cheap backpacker homestay, these are modern studio apartments. There are other places.

I can buy two pieces of chicken, rice and two vegetables in spicy sauce which is delicious for 13 000 rupiah at many places anywhere in Bali. Bali Kopi 3000 rupiah.

if what you're saying is, "I can't eat in 3-5 star restaurants for 30 000 rupiah any more, or sleep in 3-5 star hotels for 150 000 rupiah", well, you're right. You can't! You can however accommodate your self in very nice rooms and eat incredibly tasty food and enjoy magnificent beaches for an absolute pittance compared to Australia.
