Each to their own I guess - not really sure where you looked but the aviation safety network website gives detailed info about the lead up and causes of the 2007 Garuda crash - certainly pilot error seems to have been a contributing factor but there is no suggestion of shortage of fuel.
It also shows 5 incidents for Qantas in the last 10 years plus the Bangkok runway incident in 1999
Geoffrey Thomas's own airline ratings.com website has apparently included Garuda (along with Qantas) in its current list of 149 " top rating" 7 star safety rated airlines ( out of 449) as per a January 2015 report from theABC
I'm trusting Garuda to take me to London next month - but guess if my time's up then that's it!
