By the sounds of things, I think that staying at home would be a good option for you. Not sure where you are from but wherever I have been in the world, you pay to get in to the country - sometimes it is built in to the airfare and sometimes not. Judging by the number of tourists each year into Bali, most people have not found the same problems as you have. Good luck to you in the future - stay happy!
