Well it sounds like you didn't do enough research for your trip and are disappointed as a result of that oversight.
The arrivals and departure taxes are well advertised and to be expected. Some other countries have these taxes collected by the airline companies on their behalf and therefore are not as explicit, but you pay them nonetheless.
Indonesia is not exclusive in collecting government taxes on accounts such as service/rooms/meals.
Thailand is well known for having a price for locals and one for tourists. These different prices are clearly advertised at the entrance to attractions.
As for taxi drivers taking you to commissionable places, well that happened to me in Malaysia and is just for the unwary.
Pity you found this site after your holiday as you could have asked for some first timer tips prior to visiting Bali.
