That lovely bit of Japanese engineering has signs strictly forbidding its use for any live animal transport.

One day we witnessed a bare-faced attempt to break this law. A farmer needed to get 100+ geese from Kuta to Sanur and proceeded in this bizarre fashion.

A man with a flag in front led the procession in the same way as used for ducks. In case of Polisi pulling them up, they were erasing the evidence as they went. The poor assistant gooseleer at the rear, would throw a bucket of water after the geese had passed, crapping copiously then duck (? ) into the drain and refill his bucket, time after time as the unconcerned flock, Gaggle ? strolled unconcernedly to Sanur, doing what geese do best in great repetitive volume.

In contemplative moments, we often think of this bare-assed violation of the law and the problems of the assistant gooseleer at the back of the procession; we hope they got away with it for their ingenuity and daring. Maybe the Polisi were at lunch or had been treated to a goose each, in an attempt to cover up their pollutant crime.

Pete laughing.
