Nyepi

We will be in Bali for Nyepi and I was wondering if someone could please tell me what happens at hotels. Is it ran by a skeleton staff and would it be a good idea to stock up on food and drinks (particularly for the kids) beforehand? At that time we will be at a smallish hotel. Thanks!
