My husband and I have just bought a new digital camera. We were set on a Canon EOS650D, which is a DSLR, and we live in Malaysia.

We found there were MUCH better prices to be had in the US, and in fact you can buy one there and ship it to yourself for less than you can buy it here in Malaysia, or in Aus for that matter.

I regularly travel to Indo for work, and there is absolutely no advantage to buying a DSLR there.

At worst, get the best price you can get in Aus, and get the TRS (10%) refund at the airport when you leave.

Incidentally, in the end, we didn't buy the DSLR... It's very heavy, quite alot of cash, and unless you're using the photos for professional PRINT media, then there is not much point. Get a good quality digital camera instead. We bought a Canon Power Shot SX 50 HS.The zoom is freaking amazing and the it has full HD 1080p video. Our holiday photos are stunning.

Unless you're willing to lug the extra weight around, and commit to one brand of lens for
A very long time, save yourself some money and skip the DSLR, you really won't miss it.

Apart from the Canon, there are some other great brands out there as well that will do an equally great job.

Happy holidays!
