It sounds good, I know, but that seems rather risky. What about ID theft and other things that could occur?

Forgive me if I seem a bit jaded on this point, but if this were 1972, no problem....but 2013?

Tell me I can pay the guy cash and keep my passport while he gets the extra paperwork...please!

Any and all responses are appreciated. Worst case scenario is I send my passport to an official in LOS ANGELES and have to wait 3 to 5 for $50 U.S.
