Most airlines are charging you for the weight that you carry, but not for the number of bags. So, on your way home, you might have your original luggage with approx 23kgs, but you might have 2-3 bags that make up the other 23kgs 9that you had purchased).
We bought home about 6 boxes of items from Bali last time, but we were only charged for the excess of weight, not boxes.
Double check with the airline.
