It should be emphasised that dress for the beach is nor appreciated in the Malls in Denpasar or other places where you should dress well. Scantily-clad tourists, despite multi-lingual notices indicating proper forms of dress in these and other places, tourists are not welcomed in a state of undress and sometimes the locals make their displeasure felt.
We wirnessed an extreme case in the Garuda office two years ago. While we waited our turn, two young UK lads were in a twenty minute discussion about changing their ticket, with a beautifully-presented Javanese lady, while the laddos were dressed in bare feet and short surfy shorts only. Well, it transpired that the Computer was having constant problems, very constant indeed; the lads were still waiting when we left,40 minutes later, reaching over the counter to subject the lady to the effluvium of their sweaty arm-pits and boozy breath.
Maybe they're still waiting before it occurs to them to go away and get dressed! They certainly wouldn't be served in undressed state by jolly British Airways, at home, in that state, so why, oh why be that way over-seas?
Different strokes, etc.
