My two cents worth on this topic. Having travelled to Bali more times then I can count, thankfully we have never had a problem with in room safes or front office safety deposit boxes. Once stayed at a place up north that had a sleezy feel to it, took extra precaution in hiding my funds at this place, such as hiding notes in a book, locked in a bag within a locked suitcase. I think it is wise to split up your funds or c/cards. Some have suggested they carry all their money and it doesn't leave their sight, if robbed you loose it all!
Just travelling is risky, so do what you are comfortable with and take care. RR
