personally I like Denpasar town, but I know quite a few who hate it.
It's very different to the tourist areas Kuta/Legian and having taken the trouble to get to Bali it may be argued that Denpasar is worth checking out, even if just to say you hate it?!
Tirtaganga is around 3 hours drive, and again depends on what you do or don't like.
You can also have a look at Ujung water palace towards Amlapura.
This will be a day trip, and as such probably worth around 300K to 400K for the transport.
