TIRTAGANGGA / DENPASAR

Hi there, have been to Bali many times and mainly just done the Kuta/Legian relax, swim, massage, drink etc but want to venture a little bit. Is there much at Denpasar itself to look at - worth the short trip or much Same same.?
Is the Water Palace at Tirtagangga worth a look also. If so how far, cost of driver. I will be travelling solo this time. Safe?
